Let’s talk about Sleep 😴💤

This time of year sucks. Everyone’s sneezing, restless and who can forget the freezing cold nights. People are sick all around you. The Heating bill boosts in the wrong direction. The only benefits are snuggling up in fluffy blankets, dressing gowns and fluffy slippers and drinking tasty Hot chocolates in the comfort of your own home. Oh, and Bailey’s don’t forget the Bailey’s. 

So, what I really want to talk about is SLEEP.

I am a light sleeper. Which is rather unfortunate. I can wake from the smallest of noises. Stress also keeps me awake, as I’m sure it does for many others. So, what have I tried?

  • Drinking half a pint of water 30mins before bed
  • Going to bed earlier
  • Waking up earlier to make myself tired
  • Going to the gym at 9pm so I can sleep.
  • Monitoring my sleep via my Fitbit Charge 2 which was interesting learning about the different stages of sleep. ( Pretty Cool)
  • Himalayan Salt Lamp beside my bed. ( health benefits galore, check them out )

I found that my body just does what it wants. I don’t really have a pattern. So, I’m always up for preparing myself for a good nights sleep.

img_0856Recently our flat is “BALTIC” in the winter honestly you’d think we didn’t have a front door it gets that’s cold!! If only I could move out into my dream 3 bedroom house tomorrow I would! Anyways back to reality.

So, I’ve heard of essential oils can help you ease into a more natural sleep. So being curious, I recently tried some products out. *I was kindly gifted the products linked to my blog below*

First I tried out:anatomicals Cruisin’ for a Snoozin’ Sleep balm

This contains: Olea Europaea Fruit Oil, Bees Wax, Castor Oil, Lavandula Angustifolia Lavendar Oil, Rosmaarinus Officinalis, Citrus Medica Limonum lemon Peel Oil, Ozokerite Wax, CI 19140, CI 42090, CI 16035

Directions: Just rub a little balm under nose, on lips, on temples or other pulse points. The aroma calms and relaxes, allowing for a peaceful transition into sleep.

When you open the tin you smell essential oils which instantly makes you feel as though you have been transported to a spa. Arghhh…..and breathe your still in your bedroom.

Ok, so I first tried this after I’d been away on a City break with my friend so I was pretty pooped. But, WOW, did I K.O.

I couldn’t work out if it was the sleeping balm or I was just so drained and happy to be back in our bed. My partner didn’t sleep too great as I kept him up all night snoring. Not something I ever do which I was surprised when he told me. Oops, sorry L. 💁🏼‍♀️💕

I have tried this a couple of times since and found it didn’t work the same as the first time around. My boyfriend also used it. He didn’t notice a change. I still felt as though I had a less broken sleep. But no major K.O effects the second time around. I’d give this product a 3/5

Next I was sent this beautiful sleeping hamper to prep myself for a wonderful nights sleep.

Feathers and down

So around 8pm I ran myself a slightly hotter bath than usual as currently I’m feeling a bit under the weather. My immune system is totally down. Woman down here! Last night tested out this beautiful Melting shower cream.

I LOVE how it is free from

  • PARABENS
  • SULPHATES
  • MINERAL
  • OILS

Directions: Dispense into hands and gently massage into wet skin. Runs after use. Warnings for external use only avoid direct contact with eyes. If contact occurs, rinse thoroughly with clean water.

SLEEP FACT: Taking a quick shower before bed will help prepare you for sleep the feeling of warm running water on your skin relaxes your body and eases tension after a long day.

Ok, so I don’t have a shower.

( Again, I can’t wait to get my house!! 🙄)

We only have a bath. So I had pre-soaked myself prior to massaging this onto my body. I could smell the aromas of the essential oils. I felt rather calm and relaxed whilst doing this. I then took a minute just to be in the moment to absorb the ambience. Then washed it off. Honestly, my skin smelt so good. It was like a creamy lotion cuddling my body. I’d give this product a 5/5.

IMG_0842 Recently I bought myself another sleeping mask. After overusing my free sleeping mask from our plane journey last year, I decided it was time to buy a proper one.

TK Maxx sold the winner. You are looking at my new Laura Ashley Fluffy, lavender infused sleeping mask.

It has the right tightness to stay on my face whilst sleep and block out all the light.

If you are a light sleeper, I highly suggest you take your pretty self out and treat yourself to a sleeping mask. Honestly, it has changed the way I sleep. I also found my stress levels have decreased! Bonus!

So last night I tested out the Pillow sprayimg_0845Directions:  Spray a generous amount onto your pillow to relax you as you drift into a peaceful sleep.

Ingredients: Aqua (Water), Parfum (Fragrance), PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Trideceth-9, Sodium Benzoate, Disodium EDTA, Citric Acid, Propylene Glycol, 2-Bromo-2-Nitropropane-1,3- Diol, Anthemis Nobilis Flower Oil, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Herb Oil, Linalool, Coumarin, Alpha-isomethyl Ionone, Limonene.

SLEEP FACT: Research shows that Lavender increases the type of brain waves associated with relaxation.

I sprayed about 6 spritz over my pillow and dived into a spa. I loved the smell, it helped me feel relaxed. I didn’t feel like I was in my own bedroom, it was a nice feeling. I shall be using this again tonight. I don’t think it helped me sleep better but I do think it helped calm my mind to prepare me for a better sleep.  So I’d give it a 4/5img_0859 Next on my list tonight is…

img_0853 Sleeping wear: To be honest sometimes I just grab one of my boyfriends T-shirts and sleep in that. I have pyjamas but I just go with the flow. Usually, I don’t like sleeping in pants as I get a bit irritated, so frenchies and a T-shirt seems to be my thing.

I wonder what I will dream about tonight. Lately my dreams have been pretty insane. I love dreaming as my mind can take me places I’d never think to go. Don’t get me wrong they aren’t always nice but when they are I wake up with a smile.

Top tip:

Always prepare tomorrows outfit so you don’t start your day with a stress kick! It’s not worth it. Especially if you have prepped yourself for a good nights sleep. You want to wake up feeling revitalised.

    That Feather & Down stuff sounds amazing! I’m going to need to get some of those products. I just recently got some pillow mist too (though a different brand) that is supposed to help relax you for sleep. It does have a very blissful smell to it.

    1. It’s so soothing ☺️💤 I’d never considered it until I tried this and I’d not look back now. It’s just so nice almost takes your mind off everything just makes you focus on the smell. 😴👌🏻💙 S💕

    I burn lavender insence at night & that definitely helps me to drop off! Recently I’ve also found that having a hot water bottle on my legs or up against my tummy (even if I’m not cold) helps to relax me. As I have a lot of health problems I need a lot of sleep but never feel properly refreshed though, which sucks.

    Very nice an informative! Essential oils are big, I have 3 friends who sell, live, and swear by them. I need more convincing but hey, whatever works. Sorry to hear you have trouble sleeping some times, I on the other hand have the opposite problem. Haha, I can’t seem to stay awake and most times (give or take a few nights when my brain won’t shut off) I can fall right to sleep AND sleep until it’s time to wake up. I can be a light sleeper once in awhile, I can sleep through storms or wake up to the sound of a cat gagging. It all depends I guess on how really tired I am, plus I work 2 jobs and do sports throughout the week so I am always on the go. Keep up the good blogging!

    I haven’t tried any of the stuff you mentioned but I love Lavender. I put it in the bath or a few drops on my pulse points or on my pillow. You can buy pillows with dried lavender in them. When I can’t sleep I will resort to sleeping tablets if I am really desperate and not working the next day. I also have a herbal tea http://www.yogitea.com/en/product/bedtime/ which has Valerian in it (same as the sleeping tablets) and the tea and the tablets work but it’s so hard to wake up the next morning.
    Most sleep products with have lavender in them, I find it cheaper just to buy lavender or to buy a sleep mist from Boots or Avon. And if they’re tablets or tea they’ll have Valerian.
    I hope you find something that works for you, I hate not getting enough sleep. I have noisy neighbours so they do not help.

    1. Aw bless you it’s an absolute nightmare! I woke up this morning and at some point in my sleep I took off my sleeping mask. It’s weird what we do in our sleep so I woke up a couple hours earlier. Off to a 10 hour shift I’m shattered! I must invest in some oils alone. Yes it seems to be trending lavender. I can’t smell it even though it’s in my mask but I can feel the dry bits in it. I bet I could make my own pillow spray hmmm you’ve got me feeling creative! Xxx have a good day!
